Unfortunately,
there were no surprises for the CIC in first round sectional play. The two
league teams expected to win, Eastbrook and Madison-Grant, did so and the other
six conference teams saw their seasons end.
The highly
ranked Panthers received a stern first round test at Leo. They eventually
subdued the Lions 33-26. Madison-Grant had no such trouble in breezing past
Wabash 55-21. Eastbrook will now face Harding, a surprise winner over Norwell
in week one of the tourney. Madison-Grant advances to face Winchester who
downed CIC companion Oak Hill 14-6.
Elsewhere in the league, the Mid-Indiana
Conference was the primary villain. Four CIC teams fell to opponents from that
conference. Frankton was downed by Cass 31-0, Taylor bounced Alexandria 35-21,
Powerful Northwestern polished off Elwood 61-0, and Mississinewa fell to Peru
31-0. That leaves Blackford who had the unenviable task of facing the defending
state champion Bellmont. The Braves proved unkind as they downed the Bruins
50-0.
Four Central
Indiana Conference teams advanced through sectional competition to the regional
round of the state tournament. On the boys’ side, Oak Hill finished third in
the Logansport Sectional and Frankton took fifth at Pendleton Heights.
Eastbrook will be sending its girls to regional after a fifth place finish at
Marion and Oak Hill once again took third at Logansport.
The Oak Hill
Golden Eagles dominated the CIC meet. They claimed the crown with a score of 36
points which was 42 better than runner-up Frankton. Eastbrook captured third.
The Golden Eagles took the top two individual spots in the race. Cameron Balser
took the title with a time of 16:00. Luke Colvin was second. Here is a look at
the complete results.
